Most solopreneurs waste their best marketing ideas by never writing them down.
Whenever you're struggling to think about what content to write or you think,
"My business is boring, what could I possibly write about that anyone would care about?"
Important to remember:
Your business isn't boring to you or your clients.
Write for the people who pay attention to your work. They care about how you think.
So when you come through a problem or you're working on a project, you need to capture those ideas as they happen.
On a call recently, one of our mentorship members said he was doing really well in his business just through referrals.
But he didn’t know what to write about.
He had no idea what kind of content he could share.
And so I encouraged him to change and to adopt a new practice:
When he's working through a project, instead of letting his thinking disappear as problems arise in a project or an aha moment appears or you realize you did something quite unique, instead of letting that thinking vanish in your head—
Write it down.
Just jot it down on a voice note, in a Notion doc or on a piece of paper.
That's your content. That's your hook.
Because your clients appreciate that and when you start writing about and documenting your thinking, you actually get better at thinking and better at explaining your thinking and better at solving the problems for your clients.
And when your clients start seeing that?
It signals authority and expertise and makes you a clear choice.
Here's the best way to build your visibility in a one-to-many fashion:
- Every old problem is a marketing story
- After the moment, write down what happened
- Write what you learned
- Let your thinking do the marketing for you
Think about this:
How many great lessons have vanished from your brain this month because you didn't hit record?
