Config 2024, San Francisco, California
Thoughts & takeaways
Just a few weeks ago, I flew out to San Francisco, California, to attend Config 2024, the Figma conference for designers of all types (more than 15,000 of them)! Of course, Figma announced a whole bunch of crazy, cool and controversial features (many of which centred around Artificial Intelligence, of course). While features and keynote speeches are exciting, I attended for two primary reasons:
- To connect with web designers (and invite them to the Crew)
- To represent Wix Studio and promote their new βFigma to Wix Studio Pluginβ (which is incredible, by the way).
On day one, I was busy shooting a couple of reels for my Instagram, one about the event and one about the Figma to Wix Studio Plugin. You wouldn't believe how much work goes into shooting a 1-minute videoβI honestly think it's harder than creating a 15-minute YouTube video.
I met and talked with hundreds of designers of all types, but I was especially energized to connect with fellow web designers and agency owners! I love talking with entrepreneurial web designers who are building their own businesses. And yes, I invited all of them to join us in the Creative Crew :)
I also met some internet friends in real life β Jesse Showalter, Nolan Perkins, Tommy Geoco, Chris Misterek, Benten Woodring, Evan Place, Devin Fountain, Keith from Remote Supply, and many more. I'm working on getting all these guys to join us for some guest expert sessions in the Crew (some have already done so).
I also attended Benten Woodring and Devin Fountain's post-Config party, sponsored by Wix Studio, where everyone finally "relaxed" after such an intense conference.
Later, I went to Jesse Showalter, MDS, and Tommy Geoco's afterparty in downtown San Francisco, where I met many cool designers and entrepreneurs.
One thing is for sure: seeing and meeting so many web and product designers in real life has made me realize how important it is to build a community like ours in the Creative Crew. We need a space to talk shop, share our struggles, celebrate our wins, learn new skills, and create new opportunities.
I'm more excited than ever to grow our Creative Crew community and make it the #1 place for web design freelancers and agency owners to connect, grow, and learn together.
Let's GO!
